Biographies

ERIC DELUCA (Brown ‘90, CalArts M.F.A. ‘96) has been writing, performing, and recording music for nearly thirty years. Initially trained in trumpet through the public school system, Eric began piano lessons at age 12 and quickly progressed into jazz, classical, and rock n roll piano. His high school rock band performed extensively in the Philadelphia area and recorded an album of original material at Sigma Sound Studios in 1983. This record features Eric’s innovative piano playing, as well as his arrangements and musical direction.

DIY and under the radar, Eric has written over 150 songs and produced multiple recordings of original material. On stage and in the studio, he has chronicled a progression of development from an emphasis on virtuosity and musical sophistication toward the journey of a heart in relationship with the world.

Eric’s collaboration with Nina is indicative of the kind of long-standing and mutually engaging creative partnerships he has cultivated. He leads the Boston area’s Hungry Ghost, which features his catalog of originals. On organ, he plays with Philadelphia-based blues rock band CSB, singer-songwriter John Clarke, and alongside Dan Seiden in Vermont’s Littlenoface.

NINA KATCHADOURIAN (Brown ‘89, UCSD M.F.A. ‘93) was born in Stanford, California and grew up spending every summer on a small island in the Finnish archipelago, where she still spends part of each year. She is a visual artist whose work exists in a wide variety of media including photography, sculpture, video and sound. She is represented by Sara Meltzer gallery in New York and Catharine Clark gallery in San Francisco. In June 2006 the Tang Museum in Saratoga Springs opened a 10-year survey of her work with an accompanying monograph entitled All Forms of Attraction. More info on her visual art can be found at www.ninakatchadourian.com.

Nina studied recorder and classical piano as a kid and wrote songs with her drummer brother Kai. She learned guitar in her 20s and also developed an interest in Balinese music while in college, which prompted her to spend half a year abroad in 1988 in Bali, studying a gamelan instrument called gender wayang with Bapak Wayan Nartha. Many years later, she played with Brown University’s Javanese gamelan ensemble, led by Pak Harjito and Marc Perlman, from 2001-2004. She currently plays with the Brooklyn-based band The Wingdale Community Singers, www.myspace.com/thewingdalecommunitysingers. The Wingdales are currently at work on their second album, Spirit Duplicator, due out in 2008. Nina also plays accordion, recorder, piano, various forms of percussion, and occasionally flails away on the musical saw. Some of Nina’s solo musical projects can be heard at www.myspace.com/ninakatchadourian.
